A log transformation is one of the most popular ways to deal with skewed data.
It consists in taking the logarithm of each of the observations of a random variable. Ultimately, this (usually) scales down the observations and leads to a much less dispersed sample.
Finally, if the distribution of the original variable is log-normal, the log-transformation would result in a variable with a normal distribution.
